Camp ALEC documents the titular youth summer camp founded in 2014 by Tina Moreno and Gina Cunningham. The week-long event, held each August in Grand Rapid, MI, promotes literacy education for its campers, whom due to various circumstances and disabilities, rely on AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication) devices to communicate. Through these young subjects, the film seeks to answer the conundrum each face: how does one grow to find their voice, if not born with the natural ability to speak?
