From wrestling on the mat, to grappling with life’s big problems, WRESTLE follows an underdog high school team in Hunstville, Alabama, over the course of one tumultuous season. We meet four boys—Teague, Jailen, Jamario, and Jaquan—who look to their wrestling coach for much more than just feedback on their holds. At practice, Coach Scribner is passionate and unrelenting, pushing the boys in hopes of making the state championships. He also steps in as dad, taxi, and teacher. Facing a difficult uphill battle in the face of school underfunding, broken homes, and teenage pregnancy, we get to see not only how they grow in the sport, but how it keeps them in control of their lives. Told with such unsentimental empathy, Suzannah Herbert and co-director Lauren Belfer’s investment in the athlete's lives makes the heartrending question of what their prospects are after high school just as suspenseful as the outcome of each match.
