Description

This bittersweet comedy and tender ode to friendship has swept awards at festivals all over the world, perhaps because it speaks in such a wise and sincere universal language about love, life, and death. Emotionally rich and honest without being cloying, “Truman” is the story of Julián, a famous stage actor living in Madrid who faces a terminal cancer diagnosis. His best friend Tomás makes an unexpected trip from Canada to help put affairs in order. There are grown children to consider, accounts to settle between the two old friends, and Julián is especially concerned about what might happen to Truman, his faithful and beloved boxer —researching how dogs grieve and auditioning potential new owners. With outstanding performances by two of the Spanish-speaking world’s biggest stars, “Truman” is like a warm afternoon spent with old friends, having a drink, shooting the breeze, and feeling pretty good.
