Description

Rarely do outsiders have the opportunity to witness life in Iraq from a first-person perspective. Zaradasht Ahmed’s prize-winning documentary changes this entirely by putting a camera in the hands of Nori Sharif, a nurse caught in the crossfire of what is commonly referred to as the “triangle of death” in central Iraq’s Diyala Province. The results are shattering. The film documents four years in the life of an optimistic father, as his relatively stable existence is thrown out of balance when Iraqi armies abandon his city due to militant activity, and he’s faced with an impossible decision: stay and dedicate himself to treating those who need help, or trade his home for a displaced future in order to protect his family. Striking in its simplicity, and heartbreaking in its poignancy, this deeply personal and profoundly brave film leaves a mark on all who see it.
