Description

Mystery and loss are at the forefront of Pedro Almodóvar’s latest master work, adapted from stories by Nobel Prize winner Alice Munro. Julieta is a 50-year-old woman living in Madrid, about to move to Lisbon with her partner. After a chance encounter on the street, she suddenly decides not to leave with him, refusing to offer a reason. The story then moves backward and forward in time seamlessly. We watch the young Julieta fall in love with her first husband, have a daughter, and live happily in a small fishing village until tragedy strikes. Back in the future, we watch the results of this tragedy unfold. Told in a style influenced by classic thriller directors like Hitchcock and Welles, this complex and poignant story is a haunting tale about how relationships continue to affect us long after they end.
