Neil Wistin (Sean Bean) is a high-level CIA drone pilot unable to disclose what he does for a living, even to his family—a family that isn’t all that close to begin with. A crisis begins when, from the desk of his suburban office, he accidentally kills Pakistani civilians with a missile. He experiences little regret, but he’s forced to face the ramifications when Imir Shaw (Patrick Sabongui), a man from Pakistan who is all too familiar with the carnage Neil has a hand in, pays him a visit. Their interactions are fraught with tension—Sabongui is masterful at breaking through Bean’s carefully crafted exterior. Bean delivers a quiet yet powerful performance in “Drone,” Canadian filmmaker Jason Bourque’s take on the cost of keeping secrets and the danger of disassociating ethics from the job you’re paid to do for a living.
