Shorts: Animated at the Ann Arbor Film Festival
Dutmers at the Dennos Museum
Wed, Jul 27, 2016 9:00 PM
For 53 years, the Ann Arbor Film Festival has brought remarkable cinematic experiences to experimental film lovers. And since 2010, we have brought our favorites from their comprehensive selection Up North. This year, we present ten shorts reflecting diverse approaches to the fine art of animation. We begin with Herman, a rat who enjoys heavy drinking, loud grind music, and chess, until a tidy cat with a weakness for messy macho-men decides to move in with her vacuum cleaner and classical music record collection. And we end with “LOVE,” a film in three chapters describing affection through an impact on a distant solar system. In between, “Bottom Feeders” try to make it through the day; an abandoned child grows up with wolves after his mother rescues him from a violent father in “Daewit;” and “Edmond” journeys backwards through life while contemplating his options lakeside.

A surrealist journey through colours and shapes inspired by the poem Romance Sonámbulo by Federico García Lorca. Visual poetry in the rhythm of fantastic dreams and passionate nights.
