Fans of “The Walking Dead,” take note: This post-apocalyptic survival story is a rare treat for smart genre movie lovers. A viral outbreak has decimated the world and left most of humanity dead, or infected with the taste for human flesh. Ann lives alone in a forest in upstate New York, carefully planning each day’s survivalist activities and foraging for supplies, accompanied only by a radio that broadcasts a single transmission in French. Then one day, she crosses paths with two other survivors, a teenage girl and her stepfather, and she must make a decision—continue to fight on alone, or connect with other humans in a world where intimacy can be just as dangerous as the zombies she has learned to outsmart and outrun. The winner of this year’s Tribeca Audience Award is not just for fans of the undead.
