Like a real-life Bad News Bears, LA’s trashtalking,
wisecracking Pistol Shrimps are a
rebellious band of misfits born out of one
woman’s dream: to play on a basketball team.
Reviving a long-dormant LA rec league, a
gaggle of writers, models, musicians, moms,
and “Parks and Rec” star Aubrey Plaza, sign
up to play. And despite the fact that most of
them are terrible at basketball, ain’t nobody
gonna stop them from having a good
time. Posting their antics on Instagram and
going out for milkshakes, they support each
other through losses in the way only teammates
can. And then, the craziest thing happens—as
they grow closer, they actually start
winning. Heartfelt, hilarious, and really, really
good, this movie about finding your people
and your purpose is pure exuberance in cinematic
form. Just try to stop smiling as Molly
“oldest Bachelor contestant” Hawkey and Ingrid
“Han Ma Boogie” Walla shoot straight into
your heart.
