Description

Calling all conspiracy theorists: do we really know the truth about NASA’s origins? There’s plenty of ammo to convince us otherwise in Žiga Virc’s fascinating and groundbreaking film, which explores the Cold War-era space race between America and the USSR, and a supposed secret billion-dollar sale of Yugoslavia’s space program to the US in the 1960s. Brilliantly combining archival footage with modern interviews of Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Žižek and key players in the events under investigation, Virc focuses his keen eye on the media apparatus and propaganda machine at work from the 1960s onward, as the US grew into a global superpower and Yugoslavia precipitously declined. Blurring the line between fact and fiction, “Houston, We Have a Problem!” challenges us to take an inquisitive look at our own country’s mythos. Scheduled to Appear via Skype: Director Žiga Virc.
