The best laid plans often go awry—especially
when they involve stand-up comedy careers.
Floundering comic Paul (Alex Karpovsky,
“Girls”) is struggling both onstage and off when
he gets an unexpected break: his childhood
best friend offers him an opening act slot on an
East Coast tour. A hit folk singer and unrepentant
womanizer, Jason (Wyatt Russell, son of
Kurt and Goldie) pushes Paul to break out of his
shell. But as the comedian continues to bomb—
only now in front of bigger crowds—he begins
to doubt both his talent and Jason’s intentions.
Then an attractive musician (Meredith Hagner)
joins them on tour and further tests their
friendship. “Folk Hero & Funny Guy” is a witty
road-trip comedy driven by great music, lots of
laughably terrible jokes, and three captivating
lead performances full of humor and heart.
