Across the country, undocumented immigrant workers toil in unsafe conditions and face abusive managers for sub-minimum wage pay. This rousing documentary follows a group of workers at a bakery in New York’s Upper East Side who banded together and stood up to their employers, risking deportation and their livelihoods to fight for fair treatment. Led by sandwich maker Mahoma López, the workers teamed up with activists, Occupy Wall Street protestors and other groups sympathetic to their cause, working to persevere over the course of a year filled with lockouts, picket lines, betrayals, and legal battles. An engrossing saga of a courageous fight for equality, “The Hand That Feeds” is one of the year’s great David vs. Goliath stories.
