Description

From acclaimed director and TCFF Lifetime Achievement Award Winner Michael Apted (“56 Up,” TCFF ’13) comes a revealing look at the heart of image making. A passionate journey of glass, the film explores the nearly spiritual relationship between the artisans who craft camera lenses and the masters who use the lenses to reflect humanity’s hopes, fears and dreams back upon itself. Whether peering deep into the never-ending solar system or freezing a war-torn smile in time, they capture light, attempting to turn it into perfection and understanding in an uncertain world. Featuring never seen before footage from inside a premier Japanese lens factory, "Bending the Light" pairs intimate interviews with engineers and virtuosos who have dedicated their lives to lens creation with award winning photographers and cinematographers Greg Gorman, Laura El-Tantawy, Richard Barnes, and Stephen Goldblatt.
