Renowned actor Cate Blanchett delivers impeccable performances in not just one, but 13 different roles in this unique and electrifying work of conceptual art. In a series of gorgeously rendered vignettes, Blanchett masterfully takes on the personas including factory worker, homeless man, news anchor, and funeral eulogizer to dramatize passages taken from the world’s most famous political and artistic manifestos, presenting them in nearly every accent imaginable. Originally an installation piece with all the vignettes playing simultaneously on 13 different screens, the sweeping cinematography and exquisite production design of “Manifesto” smoothly transition the work to cinema. With moments of surprising humor, this disarming film, sprung from the mind of artist Julien Rosefeldt, is a delicious and compelling work for the art lover in us all.
