The rising voices of post-revolution Libya created this remarkable anthology of 13 separate stories filmed over the course of three years, depicting the day-to-day world of Libyan citizens from Tripoli to Benghazi. A fisherman who spends more time philosophizing than bringing in any fish, an aspiring female film director who won’t be told no, and illegal migrants caught in the limbo of a detention center—these are just a few of the vivid characters we meet as the directors reveal a true slice of Libyan life. There’s plenty we don’t know about what it is like to be a Libyan citizen. These stories give us a glimpse into a ravaged country torn by civil war and what it looks like to move forward in the face of often unfathomable conditions.
