Our favorite award-winning dramatic short narratives from around the world are packed into this inspir-ing best-of program. A young cellist must overcome fear in order to keep her position in an orchestra in “Hold On” (Best Short Narrative, Tribeca); Salman Rushdie narrates a story of class, dictatorship, and an overthrow in “Concerning the Bodyguard;” an eight-year-old girl struggles to find her place when father brings a new family home to join his old one in “Mother(s)” (Jury Award, Sundance); a local girl’s efforts to help an immigrant she’s fallen for have unforeseen consequences in “Balcony” (Crystal Bear Winner, Berlin); and in “Over,” mysterious events in an average neighborhood play out in reverse.
Over presents a crime scene. During the course of 9 wide shots told in reverse order, we watch an intriguing story unfold. What has happened in this quiet neighbourhood? A murder, a hit-and-run, an accident? The reality is profound, and deeply unexpected.
