On the verge of losing the resort that’s been
in his family for generations, Primus decides
to convert his hotel into a state-supported
refugee reception center. It’s the latest in his
long line of go-nowhere schemes, which have
exhausted his wife so much that she mostly
stays in bed. In typical fashion, he agrees
to take in 50 asylum-seekers, mainly from
Arab-speaking countries, before renovations
are finished. The ensuing fracas is played for
plenty of laughs while it intelligently illuminates
the painful issues facing immigrants.
Primus’ cluelessness about the people he is
sheltering would be an even bigger disaster
were it not for a helpful African youth who
becomes an advisor, and eventually a friend,
to the xenophobic, casually racist Primus,
helping him navigate the demands of authorities
and tenants, as the center slowly
becomes livable. This heartwarming comedy
is sure to be a top audience favorite.
