In his 94 years, US 6th Circuit Appeals Court
Judge Damon J. Keith has gone from Detroit-born
janitor to preeminent federal judge,
watching his country transition from a land
with a segregated army in which he served,
to a country led by an African-American
Commander-in-Chief. Director Jesse Nesser
brings us the extraordinary life story of a
Detroit civil rights icon who was mentored by
Thurgood Marshall, welcomed Nelson Mandela
to the Motor City, and called Rosa Parks
a friend. His landmark legal decisions forever
changed America by confronting discrimination
in the areas of jobs, housing, education,
and law enforcement. Told through interviews
with luminaries including activist Julian Bond,
US Rep. John Conyers, and former Detroit
Tiger Willie Horton, Judge Keith’s life story
gives us a unique window into the history of
our state and our country. We are proud to
walk with him through a century of changes.
